Former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam dead at 83

USPA News - Former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam, who is widely regarded as the father of the country`s missile program, has unexpectedly died in northeastern India at the age of 83. "India mourns the loss of a great scientist, a wonderful President and above all an inspiring individual," Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said in a statement. Kalam died from cardiac arrest at a hospital in the northeastern city of Shillong, where he had traveled on Monday to take part in a "Livable Planet Earth" course.
He was rushed to hospital after collapsing during the event. Writing on Twitter, Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh called Kalam`s death an "irreparable loss to this nation," adding: "He has left a big void hard to fill. I deeply mourn his death."
