The Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Mr. YS Sujana Chowdary visits Cambridge University in England on May 23, 2015. The Minister said that universities have a key role to play In skilling India.
Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Mr. YS Sujana Chowdary invited the Cambridge University to partner with Andhra Pradesh that has put education in the forefront. The University members were also informed of the state government´s efforts to provide quality education to every citizen by launching “˜Badi Pilustondi´ campaign. As part of England tour, the Minister visited the Cambridge University in England on May 23.
Addressing the representatives of Cambridge University, Mr. Chowdary emphasized the talent pool India has to offer. “40% of Indian researchers are working overseas,“ he added.
Explaining that the main thrust area for India now is to improve the quality of higher education and research skills, he said that the universities have a key role to play in skilling India by actively participating in the government´s skill developmental initiatives. There must be increased focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), he stressed, while explaining that the main objective of research and innovation is to percolate the benefits to the lowest strata of the society.

Mr. Chowdary briefed the representatives of the University on various innovative schemes that have been launched by the union government. He also explained Prime Minister Narendra Modi´s thrust to development through projects Make in India, Swachh Bharat, Smart Cities plan and Ganga Rejuvenation project.
Mr. Chowdary is leading a delegation of eminent scientists from India to attend bilateral meetings and worldwide conference on Metallurgy.
