USPA NEWS - UK aid to help meet emergency humanitarian needs in Yemen. Support will help those most affected by the conflict, by providing medical supplies, water, food and emergency shelter. Part of:Humanitarian emergencies, International aid and development and Yemen.

The UK Government will allocate £4 million to help meet emergency needs as a result of the current crisis in Yemen. This forms part of the UK´s commitment to provide £72 million to Yemen in 2015-16, including £11 million for humanitarian assistance.

This announcement brings the UK´s overall commitment to the UN 2015 Humanitarian Appeal for Yemen to £15 million.

UK funding will provide life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable people in Yemen, including those most affected by the conflict, by providing medical supplies, water, food and emergency shelter, as well as supporting refugees and migrants. It will also help build the resilience of affected communities to future shocks. The UK Government welcomes Saudi Arabia´s $274 million donation to the UN Flash Appeal for Yemen, announced on 18 April 2015, which will help to meet immediate needs for 50% of Yemenis in need of assistance over the next three months.

The UK continues to urge all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law, including allowing unfettered access for humanitarian agencies to deliver humanitarian supplies, and allowing the sick and wounded to access health services.
Actions - Co-ordinating the UK´s response to humanitarian emergencies
The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK government´s response to humanitarian emergencies in developing countries. DFID works with other UK government departments such as the FCO and MOD, international organisations such as the United Nations, charities, other aid agencies and the governments of the countries affected.
