Aerobatic plane crashes in the Netherlands, killing 2

USPA News - Two people were killed when a small plane performing aerobatics crashed at a golf course in the eastern region of the Netherlands, police said on late Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said the pilot was attempting to pull out of an almost vertical nosedive after a looping.

The accident happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday when the single-engine plane went down at a golf course near Bussloo lake in Voorst, a municipality in the eastern province of Gelderland. Debris from the aircraft - which was completely destroyed - was scattered across the field. "Emergency services immediately went to the scene. The two occupants of the small plane did not survive the accident. It involves two people whose identities are not yet known," a police spokesperson said. The aircraft had taken off from nearby Teuge Airport shortly before the crash. Local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland said witnesses reported seeing the aircraft performing loopings at the time of the accident. "The speed with which he came down was unbelievable. Just above the ground he tried to correct it but he was unable to get the plane out of the nosedive, it was almost vertical," one eyewitness was quoted as saying. Aviation police and the Dutch Safety Board will investigate the cause of Wednesday`s crash.
