USPA NEWS - From 26. 09. 2013 to 30. 09. 2013 was the 13th EURETINA Congress in Hamburg. The Congress and Exhibition of the 13th European Society of Retina Specialists was held at the CCH - Congress Center Hamburg. Organiser: EURETINA, Temple House, Temple Road, Blackrock, Co. Dublin, Ireland.
The official language of the Congress was English. EURETINA was delighted to announce the second Retina Race in aid of ORBIS and sponsored by Novartis and Alcon. This 5km Charity Run was open to delegates, exhibitors and friends of all societies who are attending the EURETINA Congress at CCH Congress Centre, Hamburg, Germany.EURETINA is delighted to announce that, as of January 2010, Ophthalmologica, one of Europe´s most prestigious scientific journals in Ophthalmology, has become its official scientific journal.
EURETINA considers this development a major step forward in achieving its goal to become the leading scientific association of retinal specialists in EUROPE. The scope of Ophthalmologica will remain global, covering all aspects of ophthalmology. However there will be a progressive commitment to publishing research on vitreoretinal diseases, with the ultimate aim of becoming the European reference for retinal diseases. The name of this society is EURETINA ““ Europäische Gesellschaft für Netzhautspezialisten (EURETINA - European Society of Retina Specialists) e.V.
At the 13th Euretina Congress was told about the macular degeneration. The wet age-related macular degeneration is in developed countries the most common cause of blindness in patients aged over 50 years. The information pamphlet entitled "Advocating for the Improved Treatment and Outcomes for Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration" (opinion for the improved treatment and better results of age-related AMD) is the result of the second international experts Summit for age-related wet macular degeneration, in June the nonprofit angiogenesis Foundation in Berlin (Germany) was organized.
A group of professionals of many disciplines has two days checked the latest progress of this area and is dedicated to the problems that exist in the diagnosis and treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration continues. New treatments and diagnostic techniques - specifically, anti-angiogenesis therapy and "Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography" (SD-OCT) - have resulted in diagnosis and treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration in a paradigm shift. These techniques can prevent vision loss, slow down and even reversed in some cases together with an early diagnosis.
If the current problems of the optimal treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration are to be overcome, all parties must make joint efforts worldwide. This includes patients, caregivers, physicians, researchers, industry executives, legislators and regulators. In addition, a new generation of leaders in the field of age-related wet macular degeneration are trained, who have wide expertise and are independent must, because almost all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of age-related wet macular degeneration are developing rapidly.
The European Society of Retina Specialists is delighted to announce the 3rd EURETINA Innovation Awards sponsored by EURETINA to support and encourage innovation in the field of retinal science and medicine.The award was made during the 13th EURETINA Congress in Hamburg. The purpose of the Award was: To support, encourage and reward individuals who actively consider and develop novel and innovative ideas relevant to the field of retinal medicine; To facilitate and support an entrepreneurial culture to deliver new market applications for the ultimate benefit of patients with retinal disorders; To engage and encourage the networking potential of the retinal community across the EU to improve both patient care and outcomes.
EURETINA are delighted to continue their highly successful Innovation Awards, originally launched at annual conference in London in 2011. This year´s Science & Medicine Awards was similar in structure and was carry two prizes ““ a first award of €20,000 and a second award of €10,000. The 2013 EURETINA Science & Medicine Innovation Awards was an exciting initiative sponsored by the Society to support and encourage innovation in the field of retinal medicine.
Thirteen years after its first annual meeting opened in Hamburg to a total of 300 delegates, over 4,000 retinal experts and researchers from 98 countries converged on the city for the 13th EURETINA Congress, making it the largest congress in the history of the society. The 2013 EURETINA scientific programme saw an increase in modules across all categories totaling 10 main sessions, 30 instructional courses, 20 free paper sessions and 16 satellite symposia. 65 companies participated in the exhibition making it the largest retina-based exhibition the congress has hosted to date.
